Carmen Escalona Ceramics Room

Carmen Escalona Vega was born in a winery in the neighboring town of Mijas, surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and tile fields. She is a self-taught artist with her own style, which gives her a singularity in the ceramic scene. Her figurations take on a life of their own and seek to reflect the life of the past so that the elderly do not forget it and so that the young see how little her ancestors lived with, as she herself points out. Thus, her representations show us the popular ranches of yesteryear, weddings, corners of our town, daily and common scenes to which she confers relevance through her art. And each of her works demands the attention of the public, that she will discover a world where not a detail is missing. This anthological exhibition shows a clay artist with her own style, with a life dedicated to the art of modeling ceramics so that it becomes a witness of traditional life that thanks to her work we can remember forever.

This room is a joint project of the Department of Culture and the Archaeological Association of Coín.
