LÓPEZ DUERTO
The photographic studio of "López Duerto" (1921-1996) was located in this place since 1959. The nineteenth-century house where it was located was replaced by the current building according to the current approach of the moment.
Born in Malaga, into a family of musical instrument makers, he began his elementary studies at the German College in Malaga and finished nursing at the Granada School of Medicine. A practitioner by profession, he decided to dedicate himself to photography at the beginning of the fifties, when the DNI became mandatory. He chose Coín, where he had spent summer vacations in the company of his grandfather, a native of this city. Thus, he transferred his studio on C / Nueva in Malaga to the studio of the widow of the former local photographer, Juan Marmolejo.
In his works, he underlies the photographer's love for making inventories of Coín as journalistic documentation, with tourist, cultural and aesthetic aspirations. There is a certain obsession with reflecting the sincerity of the Mediterranean architecture of this city, both the popular and the cultured.
In his last years in Coín, he dedicated himself to the defense of cultural heritage from the pages of Diario Sur and the local press. He opposed the demolition of the Trinitarian Convent and fought for the conservation of its triangular tower.
For almost thirty years he photographed everything that can be photographed, he portrayed all kinds of characters, political acts, religious festivities, fairs, military parades, social buildings, urban and country landscapes, children, weddings, baptisms, communions and burials.
Now, with the passage of time, looking at his photos takes us back to a Coin that we can still dream of today. His enormous legacy is made up of more than ten thousand negatives in different supports, a large personal library that has valuable copies, his collection of cameras and original documents of great historical value.
